It was a big night for our Club on Saturday 5th May when we held our annual awards and presentation dinner. Nearly 100 members packed the clubrooms to celebrate the season that saw member numbers skyrocket and the Club provide 1710 hours of beach patrol and 28 rescues.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Club Person of the Year award, which went to Charlie Thornton.
Charlie was chosen for his professional attitude and leadership in his role as Patrol Captain and paid lifeguard. He was also a trainer and mentor for the Club’s cadets and instrumental in bringing a surfboat to Ocean Beach.
Charlie had already been nominated for this Award when he was involved in an emergency rescue at The Deep where he was part of the team responsible for the recovery of Samuel Roth who was washed off the rocks while fishing at Lowlands.
Wayne Winchester was another celebrated member, receiving the President’s Award for his hard work on the Club’s building redevelopment project and major grant applications.
Chyan Berliner was announced as the Diamond Lady Iron Woman and the Under 15 Club Champion. Laura McEwan received the Female Club Champion award and Amber Nekel took out the SLSWA Youth Club Achiever award.
Young Lifesaver of the Year was Jorja Williamson, Young Achiever award winner was Ella Neunuebel and U14 Club Achiever was Callum Lamb.
It was a trifecta for the Brampton family with Lee Brampton awarded the Senior Lifesaver of the Year, son Gus the Male Club Champion award, and daughter Lilla named Junior Club Achiever.
